Job Description
The WASH Project Assistant will be responsible for providing technical guidance and support for the planning, execution, and monitoring of WASH activities within the Heroes Programme. The role involves working with local stakeholders, health facilities, and schools to enhance water and sanitation services, promote hygiene practices, and integrate WASH interventions with broader health initiatives. The Assistant will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies while managing budgets and work plans.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop project work plans and budgets, ensuring the inclusion of life course immunization activities.
Plan and implement the WASH component of the Heroes Programme, including developing work plans, budgets, activity terms of reference, and reports.
Apply behavioral change and communication (BCC) approaches in project implementation.
Supervise and support field teams in implementing WASH activities in health facilities, schools, and communities.
Provide updates to the Heroes team and stakeholders on WASH policies, standards, and guidelines.
Ensure compliance with donor requirements and report challenges or opportunities to senior management.
Coordinate procurement processes for WASH programme inputs.
Engage stakeholders for effective WASH programme implementation.
Manage the WASH budget, work plans, and operational plans, including cash forecasts and expenditure tracking.
Represent Amref Health Africa in WASH-related duties within the consortium.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health Sciences, Development Studies, Community Health, Social Work and Social Administration, or related fields.
Additional training in Public Health, Reproductive Health, Project Planning and Management, or International Relations is an advantage.
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in implementing WASH interventions, particularly in integrating WASH with SRHR initiatives in schools and communities.
Experience working with health facilities and schools to streamline WASH and PHASE (Personal Hygiene and Sanitation Education).
Skills:
Strong people management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Computer literacy.
Technical expertise in water supply management and hygiene education program development.
Ability to promote sustainable hygiene and sanitation practices.
Strong ability to implement WASH interventions effectively.
